Becoming a Registered Dietician and Nutritionist in the US when you have a degree from India or a foreign country
If you have studied to become a registered dietician or nutritionist in India, and want to become a registered dietician or nutritionist professional in the USA, opportunities abound, especially with the increase in awareness around physical fitness across all ages and the increase in baby boomers retiring. You can find an excellent overview of the profession of the profession from the Bureau of Labor Statistics .
The largest association for dieticians and nutritionist professionals in the USA is the ADA – American Dietetic Association, which according to their site has over 65,000 members. To practice in the US, you need to be accredited by CADE – Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. Your foreign degree and accreditation may work – many countries have reciprocal arrangements with ADA. However, it’s likely that you will need to get your academic degree validated as equivalent to the bachelor’s or master’s degree conferred by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. The ADA site has a factsheet for people with foreign degrees trying to become a registered dietician in the US.
