Colorful Chide for Kids lunch or snack – a Bengali recipe

Continuing the articles on ‘multicultural kids lunch or snacks’, I wanted to add a quick vegetarian bengali snack that can be prepared with flattened puffed rice, which we call ‘Chidua’ or ‘Chide’. Its a great way to get veggies in. Here you go:

Colourful Chide (Flattened puffed rice, available in Indian stores as Chidua)
 
1.One tb. sp.boiled carrot (cut intosmallcubes)
2. One tb. sp.boiled green peas
3. One tb.sp. boiled potato (cut into small cubes and slightly fried)
4. One tb. sp.boiled green beans (cut into small cubes)
5. Coriander leaves/cut celery for garnishing
 
Method
Wash half cup chirua loosely and let dry in a strainer so that it does not break.
Mix with hand one teasp. salt (acording to taste) and half teasp’ sugar to chirua.
Mix the vegs.
Boil half tb sp oil in a non stick frying pan
Fry half tbsp’ cut onion softly.
Add the chirua mix. Turn and toss for 2 to 3 mins so that the whole thing gets mixed.
Garnish with coriander leaves/cut celery.
You can sprinkle some garam masala if you want.
 
Amount of oil ,salt,sugar and choice of veg can be changed acording to preference.
