Picture perfect……for a moment
I have been enjoying lying down and nursing the baby even during the day. This has started after my computer has collapsed again, and I can no longer use the ‘My Brest Friend’ nursing pillow which hitherto held baby like a horizontal smock belt around my bust. It gives me a few moments of rest (though way less time to work and blog and chat on the phone).
My Brest Friend has been my best friend through nursing my older and younger one, but it offers not much opportunity for eye contact. So I was delighted to lock eyes with my baby and stare into his soulful eyes. IIt was almost like my books ‘Breastfeeding offers plenty of chance for eye contact and bonding…’. He even raised his soft arms and began patting my face. I could just see myself in a photograph in a pro-breastfeeding magazine in a beautiful pose. Soft hands on my face, eyes of mom and baby locked in one long immeasureable stare.
Well, almost. Caught up in the moment I thought I would sing him something. A lullaby ( couldnt remember an appropriate one, so settled for row row row the boat).
The thing with that song is that the lips moved into a circle (with each ‘row’). This delighted my baby who immediately began exploring while he nursed what lay inside his mom’s mouth. I clamped it shut by he pried the lips open with a tiny thumb and stuck his little nail in my teeth!
How unhygeinic. I was apppaled.
Since this has now become his biggest fascination while nursing – if I stop him, he stops nursing and crawls over to my face and continues his dental excavations – my picture perfect moments are gone. And he gives me this stare which seems to say – I am hurt mom, I let you rub your finger on my two little pearlies as many times a day as you want.
Now if he is awake, I clean my mouth thoroughly with LIsterine
and hold my teeth clamped hoping he will give up soon.
Oh, Baby!
