This is a good list. I have heard that putting buttermilk on skin also helps take tan away and is safe for kids

  2. Holly

I did not know that Indians are so conscious about coloring. I say that beauty comes in all colors.

  3. Aparna

  10. devi

can anybody tell me, what can we do at the time of pragnancy to get a fair baby.

  11. Priya

Devi- While you are pregnant, what you can do is
1.Skip coffee ,tea. Old people say if you take them the kids will get darker complexion..Here the doctors say its not good because of the caffeine

2.Mix a pinch of kumkumapoo(saffron strands) in milk once a day. You can out this in sweets too..This may improve the complexion..Have it while you are breastfeeding too.

  13. ani

dear priya hi.my baby was very fairer and now he is 1yr old but he is losing his colour day by day.pl advice me what should i do to restore his colour.i am using olive oil but it makes no difference.

  14. Priya

Hi Ani- Please try Kasthuri manjal with milk and put it on the face..Wash it off after 10 min or when you see its getting dry. If he is not sitting still to put the mix on ,try to put the kasthuri manjal oil. Also ,try this one..Heat milk and collect the foam that comes on top. After its cool, put the foam/skin of that on face..

  35. Safa

Thanx Pry. Thats sweet of u. Hopefully i find it in Pak :)

  36. Riya

    Hi Smitha,

There are some indian stores here, is tumeric roots smashed up and rubbed on good? hihi! I am thinking of my hurdhee night :)

  37. Khushi Mommy

I like the whole Haldi idea. I have heard it is very god for skin – my friend did it for weeks before her wedding and it worked.

  38. Riya

:P so it is good then, but quite a mission to prepare :( how about those vico tumeric aurvedic creams? :P

  39. Khushi Mommy

Yes,it is a mission and very messy. I sometimes used (on myself) the vicco stuff – specially since I know that in some parts of India they do that routinly before marriage. But you know, they stain a lot – your clothes and even bangles become yellow. So I am not sure if it is good for kids.

  41. Pry

You should be able to get tumneric in most of the Indian shops. Do they have south Indian shops in UK. You may be able to get these products there.

  42. Sandhya

    Hi

applying Naal Pamarathi Oil – (you will find it in any ayurvedic shop) is very good for lightening any scars or blemishes on baby’s skin.

  43. Anonymous

PAPAYA IS VERY GOOD TO IMPROVE SKIN COMPLEXION

  44. riya

The skin colour does not come up because of all this. It is in the gene(not the pants). Scientics say that the baby can take gene from 30 generations form Both side..(meaning 60 generations of gene). Please make sure that you give healthy food and lots of greens for the baby. That will ensure rich looking and no-defficeny skin. You can try all teh above tricks just to make urself happy and busy :)

  45. kavita

hey pry.what is kasthoori manjal..what i cud understand from thes blog is, that it is turmeric powder..is it right..pls tell me..my baby is 6 weeks old and i was using olive oil..which seems not working and he is turning dark instead..

  46. Pry

Yes .its tumeric powder. You should be able to get this in indian stores.

  47. Anonymous

why this obsession with fairness? as mothers love your children as they are. stop projecting your idiotic issues on your kids. this indian obsession with fairness is so stupid. be concerned with health and nutrition and personality development, not with outer appearances.

  48. Anonymous

As a darker Indian women, I really blame mothers for perpetuating that ancient myth that fair skin = beauty. If your child should be darker that you wish, then you will only serve the purpose of making them insecure, shy, and scared of everyone’s judgment for the rest of their life. When I have a child someday I will focus on their INNER beauty, health and happiness.
