Mutton Moghlai

IngredientsShubho Nabobarsho!! Wish all of you a very very Happy Bengali New Year.On the days of Poila Boishakh, we the bengalee cook and eat delicious dishes.

Today I want to share one of the most bengalee delicacies.

Ingredients:

  • 400 g mutton
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tbsp yoghurt
  • 1½ tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1½ tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 green cardamom pods
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tbsp poppy seed
  • 5 cashew nuts
  • 1 dry chilli
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste

    Method :

  • Clean and wash mutton pieces. Marinate mutton with ginger paste, garlic paste, coriander powder and ground pepper. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Finely slice the onion.
  • Grind poppy seed into paste in a grinder. Grind cashew into paste in a grinder.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry onion with a pinch of sugar till light brown. Grind into a paste in a grinder. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add dry chilli, bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamoms and cloves. Sauté till it sputters.
  • Add mutton and fry well. Add poppy paste, cashew paste, onion paste and sugar. Fry for 10 minutes.
  • Add yoghurt, salt and little water. Cook till mutton is done.
  • Serve hot with rice, roti or parota.
