Schools out for summer soon….Some ideas

hey guys, school is out here next week. So summer camps can cost a pretty penny and sometimes overschedule the kids. I loved the lazy summer breaks I had as a kid, and love to keep the kids home as much as I can. But still, here are some ideas that make it interesting:

  • Backyard camping : Use your camping supplies and camp out right in your yard if you have one. Tent, sleeping bags, grilling and a clean toilet handy!
  • Add an evening walk post dinner so that the whole family can shake out those muscles and enjoy some time outdoors togethe
  • A neighborhood bird and nature walk – walk in the park or your neighborhood collecting types of leaves, bird feathers, tree bark and checking out varieties. Note them down every day and search up more on the web or the library
  • A kids garden patch – buy easy to grow flowers and veggies for kids to grow and maintain
  • Weekly cooking class – each family member can look up a recipe and teach the others or you can all learn together. Or, better still, get a neighborhood cook group going (I have not been able to do this, feeling too shy to ask others, but I know someone who does)
  • Earth day every week – Assign a weekday for ‘going green’. Then pick trash in the neighborhood, plan on how you can reduce your trash or carbon footprint or do some such green activity

Write more please! All ideas are very welcome. Let me know what you all think.
