The juggle and the jiggle – nursing with two kids

Source: Breastfeeding Book

‘Nursing is a great time to connect with the entire family. Use this time to read to your older child or play a game of candyland’

Accompanying picture: Mom sitting with nursing infant at breast, cradled in one arm. Second arm around older child. The same arm holds a book, and the toddler sits without squirming, engrossed in the activity. Dad can be seen in the background loading the dishwasher.

Toddler: ‘Mommy, I want to cuddle when you feed baby brother’

Mom: (Politely) Sure, come here. Do you want to get a book? I can read to you….and maybe even play candyland

Toddler: No, I will read later. I want to cuddle

Accompanying Picture (video)

Toddler climbs onto bed and onto the nursing pillow. Wiggles around and burrows into the pillow with his head dislodging the nursing baby from the breast. Baby immediately falls into deep newborn sleep.

Mom’s arms flail around trying to protect the infant from the over enthusiasm of the toddler.

Toddler’s leg shoots up and looks like its about to make a landing on infants soft spot as he cuddles around in toddler enthusiasm. Mom deftly holds leg while frantically trying to persuade toddler to read.

Toddler climbs onto mom’s legs as mom tries valiantly to wale infant from aforementioned deep sleep to get him to latch on once again.

In the background, dad is nowhere to be seen as he is in office.

These books are nowhere reality, they make everything seem a breeze while in reality it’s a storm where we moms are trying to hold onto our emotions so they don’t explode and also catering to other people’s feelings.Hmmmm

You are so right. And you got what I was saying between the lines too – about holding onto the emotions.

I agree with Sands. The books are great to read but the suggestions seldom work. Good Luck Khushi with your boys.
